CONDITION ORANGE and The Smokeless Range

CONDITION ORANGE utilizes The Smokeless Range, a cutting-edge laser-based marksmanship simulator that brings the realism of the shooting range straight to you—no live ammunition required. Powered by a recoil-enabled training pistol that emits an eye-safe laser, each shot is captured by a short-throw camera and transmitted to a laptop for instant feedback on accuracy and shot placement.

Whether you're focusing on transitional drills, speed, tracking, or refining your marksmanship fundamentals, The Smokeless Range delivers immersive, results-driven training from any location.

For those who prefer their own firearm, CONDITION ORANGE offers laser inserts compatible with 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, .45 GAP, 10mm, and .357 Sig. These inserts safely block the chamber, preventing live rounds from being chambered until removed—giving you unlimited trigger pulls with total peace of mind.

Put your decision-making and situational awareness to the test with interactive scenarios including “shoot/no-shoot” options and realistic use-of-force challenges. To maximize your experience, your CONDITION ORANGE instructor operates a dedicated control station, seamlessly managing scene transitions and alternate endings to customize your training path.

And, believe it or not, all of this can be done from the comfort of your own home or anywhere else with space, small or large.

Train Safe. Train Smart.

The Owner and Lead Instructor

From a young age, Alvin Thompson was drawn to action and adventure. Whether it was staging epic battles with little green army men or shooting BB guns in the backyard, his fascination with firearms and tactics began early.

That passion evolved into a lifelong career in public safety. Alvin joined the U.S. Air Force in 1989 as a Security Police/Law Enforcement Specialist. There, he became an expert marksman with both rifles and handguns, and received advanced training on heavier weapons like the M-60 machine gun and M203 grenade launcher. Self-defense and tactical skills were integral to his service, which included assignments at the now-retired Lowry Air Force Base, Denver Colorado and deployment to Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

After his military service, Alvin continued his commitment to public safety by joining the Denver Police Department in 1995. On patrol, he faced real-world threats, making traffic stops, responding to calls, and interacting with individuals who didn’t always have the best intentions. These experiences sharpened his situational awareness and showed him the value of tactical positioning to prevent or respond quickly to violence.

As a D.A.R.E. Officer, Alvin discovered a new passion: teaching. He realized he had a knack for connecting with people and making complex concepts accessible. That spark led him to pursue his POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification in 2007, officially qualifying him to train police recruits in handgun fundamentals. Alvin was also an instructor in less-lethal weapons, de-escalation, crisis intervention and tactics while serving with the Denver Police Department. Alvin has proudly served as a firearms instructor for Red Rocks Community College’s POST Academy since 2012, preparing the next generation of law enforcement professionals in Colorado.

Outside the uniform, Alvin is a devoted husband to his incredible wife, Melissa, and proud father to two daughters, Ruby and Lily, who are his daily inspiration and joy. More than anything, Alvin is passionate about empowering others with knowledge. He’s particularly driven to reach those who are curious about firearms and self-defense but feel overwhelmed by the overly macho culture that often surrounds it. Alvin believes that everyone deserves the confidence and clarity to make informed decisions about personal protection—even if they choose not to carry a firearm.
